Global health status of swine farming is topic of Symposium at SIAVS 2022

The event will feature the participation of some of the main names of the Official Service for sanitary control

The swine diseases that won the global agenda of the sector and that generated impacts on the world food supply will be debated at the Symposium on Swine Diseases, which will take place during the International Poultry and Swine Industry Exhibition (SIAVS), the largest event for the sectors in the country, which will take place between the 9th and 11th of August, at Anhembi Parque, in São Paulo (SP).

Scheduled for the second day of SIAVS (August 10), the Symposium will be mediated by the Secretary of Agricultural Defense of the Ministry of Agriculture, José Guilherme Leal, and will detail the situation of African Swine Fever (ASF) and WOAH (former OIE) actions. , in a presentation by the representative of the global body, Charmaine Chng Wenya.

Then, federal tax auditor Marcelo Camargos, responsible for the LFDA (Federal Laboratories for Agricultural Defense) in Minas Gerais, will talk about diagnoses available today and strategies for detecting ASF – a disease that Brazil has been free from for four decades.

Another disease that will be on the agenda will be Classical Swine Fever (CSF). About her, the federal agricultural tax auditor Guilherme Zaha Takeda, head of the suidae health division of the Ministry of Agriculture, will talk about the current situation and total control of the disease in the non-free zone today in Brazil.

Addressing other diseases, Fabio Vanucci, from the University of Minnesota, will address Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED).

Closing the program of lectures, Lia Treptow Coswig, federal tax auditor at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Coordination of Special Affairs, will speak about the challenges for wild boar control in Brazil – a relevant point for maintaining the national health status.

“The Symposium on Diseases in Pig Farming will be a dive into the most relevant issues for animal health, approaching from the global health crisis of ASF to the fundamental and necessary control of the wild boar population, which is a critical point and demands full attention. The participation of Secretary José Guilherme will further reinforce the weight of the debates at the event”, emphasizes Ariel Antônio Mendes, coordinator of SIAVS programming.
